Introducing FORM_01: A Sustainable Love Story

FORM_01 in sizes S M and L

This Spring sees the launch of my first limited editions series FORM_01.

The limited series is born in essence from the concept of sustainable craft and textile production. Each year it’s estimated that we produce around 92 million tonnes of textiles waste on earth; a number which is both logically too big to contemplate and yet viscerally something that we all feel completely paralyzed by if we consider it for too long.

As a designer in I’ve always felt a vague sense of unease around this element of production; knowing that whilst designers often make huge efforts to reduce impact at concept level, its still the case that large corporation design production impacts in many ways which could be prevented. It’s a constant paradox for any designer-maker.

The Danish textile design house Kvadrat is a company that I have been acquainted with for many years through my design career; and one which has a sustainable design strategy which has always taken production sustainability seriously - even before it was a buzz word. So when I heard that they had a whole business dedicated to using and re-purposing their waste textiles: I had to find out more.

It is in exploring this avenue, and meeting some wonderful designers from the Kvadrat family both in Denmark and London - all dedicated to decreasing their global production impact to net zero by 2040 - that I have created FORM_01.

FORM_01 is the first limited edition series, using only Kvadrat textile sourced via their waste-stream business model. The 3D structural sculpture celebrates the inherent textile weave construction of Remix 3: an elegant upholstery textile distinguished by exceptional depth of colour, designed by Giulio Ridolfo. Kvadrat says:

Wool is a natural and renewable material that grows without harsh chemicals. At Kvadrat, we prioritise animal welfare and only source certified anti-mulesing wool. Our textiles are crafted with the highest quality yarns from New Zealand and Australia, and locally sourced wool from the UK and Norway. By embracing local sourcing, we reduce emissions and enhance traceability.

Structurally the geometric 3D pleat formation of FORM_01 allows for light to interplay - shadows and movement converge on the wall - each piece quietly alive.

Available in 3 sizes with curated colour palette options. Each FORM_01 work is still crafted by my hand and made to order, expertly finished and framed in a bespoke handmade hardwood frame (unframed option available) - each one the same, but each one different.
